The HealthMarkets family of insurance companies provides affordable health insurance for the self employed, individuals and families, small business and Medicare beneficiary markets.

HealthMarkets is a holding company that conducts business through our wholly-owned insurance company subsidiaries — including The MEGA Life and Health Insurance Company, Mid-West National Life Insurance Company of Tennessee based in Texas, and The Chesapeake Life Insurance Company. We offer health, life and related insurance products to our customers in 44 states through our dedicated agent force of over 4,000 professionals, and our other agent networks.

MEGA provides affordable health and life insurance policies in all states except New York. The company is domiciled in Oklahoma.
Mid-West National Life Insurance Company of Tennessee based in Texas
Mid-West offers health and life insurance policies in Puerto Rico and all states except Maine, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont. The company is domiciled in Texas.
The Chesapeake Life Insurance Company
Chesapeake offers health and life insurance policies in all states except New Jersey, New York and Vermont. The company is domiciled in Oklahoma.

Life Insurance
We believe most life insurance companies typically underserved middle-income Americans, the self-employed, Hispanics and senior citizens. Our Life Insurance Division provides universal, whole and term life insurance tailored to these groups.
Formerly called UICI and traded under NYSE symbol UCI, the company changed its name to HealthMarkets, Inc. in 2006 to better reflect our focus on the consumer. A partnership formed by affiliates of The Blackstone Group, Goldman Sachs Capital Partners and DLJ Merchant Banking Partners acquired UICI in April 2006.
