When you're in need of free medical insurance, you may be surprised to learn how many services can be covered in a health plan under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). With so many companies offering coverage, doing the research can take hours, and getting price quotes can take even longer.

HealthMarkets Insurance Agency offers a free medical insurance matching service that can connect you with policies that meet your needs in minutes during an enrollment period. Since 2010, we helped enroll families across the nation in over 2 million policies. Contact our licensed agents today to see what we can do for you.

Free Coverage with Health Insurance Plans

When you enroll in a health insurance policy, there are a number of benefits and services that are covered by your provider. This is a requirement put in place by the ACA that helps all Americans, regardless of what type of coverage or income level, have access to necessary health care.

Covered Essential Health Benefits

No matter what level of coverage you purchased (Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum), you are required to have ten covered essential benefits when you receive medical service from a provider within your policy's network. These benefits include:

  1. Prescription drugs
  2. Pediatric services
  3. Preventive and wellness services, and chronic disease management
  4. Emergency services
  5. Hospitalization
  6. Mental health and addiction services
  7. Pregnancy, maternity, and newborn care
  8. Ambulatory patient services
  9. Laboratory services
  10. Rehabilitative and habilitative services and devices

Covered Preventive Care Services

Like the essential benefits, your health plan is also required to cover 15 preventive health services for adults without paying out of pocket. Again, these services are only covered if you visit a provider within your policy's network. According to the HSS, these services include:

  1. Abdominal aortic aneurysm screening
  2. Alcohol misuse screening and counseling
  3. Aspirin use
  4. Blood pressure screening
  5. Cholesterol screening
  6. Colorectal cancer screening
  7. Depression screening
  8. Type 2 diabetes screening
  9. Diet counseling
  10. HIV screening
  11. Immunization vaccines, including HPV, flu, and tetanus
  12. Obesity screening and counseling
  13. STI preventive counseling
  14. Tobacco use screening and interventions
  15. Syphilis screening

Covered Medical Costs for Low-Income Homes

If your family makes a modest income between 100% and 400% of the Federal Poverty Line, you may be eligible to have your monthly premiums and/or your out-of-pocket expenses covered through subsidies. These subsidies can help families to either lower or entirely cover the cost of health insurance and health care. Subsidies include:

Premium Tax Credit: A subsidy to lower or cover the cost of monthly premiums for families making between 100% and 400% of the Federal Poverty Line. You can either have the government pay your premiums directly to your health insurance provider, or you can expense it with your annual tax return.

Cost-Sharing Reduction: A subsidy to lower or cover out-of-pocket costs for families making between 100% and 250% of the Federal Poverty Line. For families who qualify, your health insurance provider can lower or cover the cost of your deductibles, copayments, or coinsurance when you receive medical care.
