If you’re shopping for a health insurance plan that provides coverage for you and your family for 2018, you’ll want to make sure you are aware of a few key dates regarding Open Enrollment so you don’t miss an important deadline. HealthMarkets reviews the important dates you need to know for the upcoming Open Enrollment period for health insurance. Let’s take a look at these dates so you can mark your calendars:
If you have a current health insurance plan, you should be receiving your renewal notice this Fall. Pay special attention to your renewal price and any other changes that may be made to your current plan.
November 1, 2017:
Open Enrollment Period starts. This is the first day you can obtain price-quotes and review health plan options for the 20185 calendar year.
Even if you have been satisfied with your current plan, this is a good time to meet with your local HealthMarkets licensed Insurance agent to review your current plan and other options to make sure the coverage you have is still right for your needs and budget today.
December 15, 2017:
The final day of Open Enrollment for most states. This is the last day to enroll in a health plan for the 2018 year and avoid a tax penalty, unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.
If you enroll in a plan from November 1 through December 15, your health insurance policy will begin on January 1. Enrolling by December 15 will ensure you have coverage for the entire 2018 year.
Additional Enrollment Dates:
Some states have extended their open enrollment dates. If you are in a state that has extended its enrollment period, and you enroll for health insurance from December 16 through January 15, your health insurance policy will begin on February 1. Enrolling after December 15 may leave you and your family without health insurance coverage at the beginning of 2018 until your new coverage begins.
