UnitedHealthcare of Florida Inc. is a subsidiary of UnitedHealthcare, Inc. Both of these are subsidiaries of the parent company UnitedHealth Group Inc. All UnitedHealthcare plans are underwritten by state-based subsidiaries. Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) plans are available to individuals and families. These plans can be purchased in gold, silver, bronze, and catastrophic coverage levels. By becoming a parent company to the existing Charter Med Incorporated company (founded in 1974), United HealthCare Corporation was able to reorganize and introduce a number of healthcare innovations. The company changed its name to UnitedHealth Group in 1998, updating the company logo for a more modern look in 2012.
