Types of Coverage

ACA Health Insurance

During the Open Enrollment Period, you also may qualify for premium tax credits and savings on deductibles, copayments, and other out-of-pocket costs based on your household size and income.

COBRA

Provides temporary continuation of your employer’s health plan. Many employers are required by law to provide this option.

Coverage on Someone’s Plan

If your spouse has coverage through their employer, it may be possible for you to be added to their plan. Have your spouse reach out to their HR department for more information. If your parent’s health insurance plan covers dependents, you usually can be added to their plan and stay on it until you turn 26.

Medicaid or CHIP

You may be eligible for coverage through these government-sponsored programs. Eligibility differs from state to state. Medicaid is generally for low-income residents, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) provides health coverage to eligible children. In some states, CHIP also covers pregnant women.

Medicare

Generally available to people 65 and older. Some Medicare coverage options even have $0 monthly premiums.**

Short-Term Health

Can provide coverage if you’ve recently become unemployed. These plans generally have lower premiums than ACA health insurance plans, but they offer fewer benefits because they don’t have the same coverage requirements.
