Medicare Eligibility in Arizona

You may be eligible for Medicare in Arizona if you’re a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident who has lived in the U.S. for more than five years and one or more of the following applies to you:2

  • You are 65 or older.
  • You have been on Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) for two years.
  • You have end-stage renal disease (ESRD) or Lou Gehrig’s disease.

When you become eligible, Medicare may automatically enroll you in Original Medicare, if you are already receiving Social Security benefits. Original Medicare includes Parts A and B (medical and hospital insurance).2,3 You can also enhance your Original Medicare benefits with a Medicare Supplement plan that helps you pay out-of-pocket costs such as deductibles and coinsurance.

Medicare Part D is prescription drug coverage. Part D is not included in Original Medicare, but you can purchase a plan separately form a private insurance company.

You don’t have to choose Original Medicare as your health coverage plan. There’s also Medicare Advantage, also known as Medicare Part C, which is purchased through private insurance companies.

Medicare Advantage plans roll hospital, medical, and often prescription coverage into a single plan that may also include additional perks. For example, some Medicare Advantage plans can help pay for hearing aids that original Medicare may not cover.4
